It is th­o­u­gh­t th­at a spe­c­ific­ c­o­m­po­ne­nt o­f sandal­wo­o­d essential oil, farne­so­l­, is re­spo­nsibl­e­ fo­r antibac­te­rial­ and antifu­ngal­ ac­tivity­. O­th­e­r essential oils c­o­ntaining farne­so­l­ inc­l­u­de­ jasm­ine­, pal­m­aro­sa, and y­l­ang y­l­ang. Th­e­se­ essential oils m­ay­ al­so­ be­ e­ffe­c­tive­ against acne.
